3.5 Functional Requirements

The Backend Developer is responsible for the FTApi codebase — the service layer that powers both the web dashboard and the mobile application. This role requires someone who builds clean, testable API contracts and has real Azure cloud experience, not just theoretical knowledge.

•    Design and implement RESTful API endpoints per US Client-defined contracts
•    Build and maintain Azure Functions for background processing and event-driven workflows
•    Optimize Entity Framework query performance — no N+1s, proper indexing awareness
•    Implement authentication and authorization using Azure AD/Entra ID
•    Build error handling, structured logging, and Application Insights integration
•    Collaborate with mobile and web developers to define and version API contracts
•    Build and maintain integrations with third-party systems — Workday (labor data), Kronos (payroll craft codes and upload), J&E (job import for Coordinator workflow)
•    Write and maintain unit and integration tests for all backend services
•    Collaborate with QA engineers on test coverage and release quality
•    Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and retrospectives
•    Address technical debt items identified in stabilization scope

3.6 Technical Requirements

Core Stack — Required
•    .NET 8.0 / C# — must be current version; .NET Framework background alone is not sufficient
•    ASP.NET Core Web API — controller design, middleware, dependency injection, action filters
•    Entity Framework Core 9 — migrations, LINQ optimization, database-first and code-first approaches
•    SQL Server — query writing, stored procedure awareness, spatial data awareness (NetTopologySuite a plus)
•    Azure App Service and Azure Functions — deployment, configuration, scaling

Azure Services — Required
•    Azure Key Vault — secret management and application configuration
•    Azure Application Insights — structured logging, custom events, alerting
•    Azure AD / Entra ID — token validation, role claims, RBAC enforcement in API
•    Azure Storage — blob operations, file handling

Patterns and Libraries — Required
•    Repository pattern and clean layered architecture (controller → service → repository)
•    AutoMapper for DTO mapping
•    FluentValidation for business rule enforcement
•    Swagger/OpenAPI — must be able to document all endpoints to a standard US Client can consume

Additional Experience — Preferred
•    Azure Event Grid or Service Bus — messaging and event-driven patterns
•    QuestPDF for PDF generation or EPPlus for Excel operations
•    OpenTelemetry / distributed tracing setup
•    DevExtreme data grid API integration
•    gRPC or microservices architecture exposure

What Will Not Pass US Client Evaluation
•    Backend experience limited to Node.js/GraphQL — the stack is .NET and Azure, not JavaScript runtime
•    Primarily Angular frontend background with minimal .NET work
•    Azure experience that is limited to deployment only — must include Key Vault, Application Insights, and AD integration
