Construction Manager
Location: Project Site Department: Projects Reporting To: Head – Projects
Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering / Electrical Engineering
(Master's Degree preferred) Experience: 12–15 Years (Preferably in
Utility-Scale Solar, Transmission, Infrastructure, or EPC Projects)
Position Overview
The Construction Manager shall be responsible for the overall planning,
execution, monitoring, coordination, and successful delivery of the project
from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through Commercial Operation Date (COD). The role
will provide leadership to all site construction functions, including civil,
electrical, mechanical, quality, safety, logistics, and commissioning
activities.
The incumbent shall ensure timely project completion within approved budgets
while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, regulatory
compliance, and stakeholder management. The Construction Manager shall act as
the single-point owner of site execution and shall proactively identify risks,
resolve bottlenecks, and drive project teams and EPC contractors toward
achieving project milestones and COD.
Key Responsibilities
1. Overall Project Planning & Execution
• Lead end-to-end site construction activities from mobilization to
commissioning and project handover.
• Develop and monitor detailed project execution plans, construction
schedules, and milestone tracking mechanisms.
• Ensure alignment of civil, electrical, transmission, and commissioning
activities with the overall project schedule.
• Review progress against project milestones and implement corrective actions
wherever required.
• Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly project review meetings with contractors
and internal teams.
• Ensure timely achievement of critical project milestones and Commercial
Operation Date (COD).
• Establish productivity targets and monitor contractor performance.
2. Site Leadership & Resource Management
• Provide leadership and direction to Deputy Managers, Engineers, Supervisors,
QA/QC personnel, HSE teams, and contractors.
• Ensure adequate deployment of manpower, equipment, machinery, and resources.
• Monitor site productivity and optimize resource utilization.
• Resolve inter-departmental issues impacting project execution.
• Develop a performance-driven culture focused on safety, quality, and timely
delivery.
3. EPC Contractor & Vendor Management
• Act as the primary interface between the company and EPC contractors.
• Review contractor mobilization plans, execution methodologies, and resource
deployment.
• Monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations.
• Conduct regular progress reviews and enforce accountability for project
deliverables.
• Evaluate contractor claims, change requests, and progress certifications.
• Ensure contractors maintain compliance with project specifications, quality
standards, and safety requirements.
4. Engineering Coordination & Technical Management
• Coordinate with engineering teams for drawing approvals, design
clarifications, and technical resolutions.
• Review engineering deliverables to ensure constructability and execution
readiness.
• Ensure timely closure of technical queries raised by site teams and
contractors.
• Support value engineering initiatives to improve project efficiency and
reduce costs.
• Monitor implementation of approved engineering changes.
5. Material Management & Logistics Coordination
• Oversee project material planning, procurement coordination, and inventory
management.
• Ensure timely delivery of critical equipment including modules, MMS,
inverters, transformers, HT/LT cables, switchgear, SCADA systems, and
transmission infrastructure.
• Monitor material consumption and minimize wastage.
• Coordinate logistics and transportation activities to avoid project delays.
• Ensure proper storage and preservation of materials and equipment at site.
6. Quality Management
• Ensure implementation of Project Quality Plans (PQP) and QA/QC procedures.
• Monitor construction quality through regular inspections and audits.
• Review NCRs, quality observations, and corrective action plans.
• Ensure compliance with approved specifications, standards, drawings, and
contractual requirements.
7. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
• Ensure implementation of company HSE policies and statutory requirements.
• Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
• Conduct regular safety reviews and audits.
• Monitor contractor compliance with HSE standards and permit systems.
• Ensure incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions are
implemented effectively.
• Drive achievement of zero fatality and zero lost-time injury objectives.
8. Stakeholder & Regulatory Management
• Coordinate with government authorities, DISCOMs, STU, CTU, SLDC, local
administration, landowners, and regulatory agencies.
• Facilitate statutory inspections, approvals, and permits.
• Support land, transmission, and evacuation-related activities.
• Maintain strong stakeholder relationships to avoid project disruptions and
delays.
• Represent the company during project review meetings with external
stakeholders.
9. Testing, Commissioning & Project Handover
• Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, synchronization, and COD activities.
• Ensure readiness of all civil, electrical, transmission, SCADA, and
communication systems.
• Monitor closure of punch points and commissioning observations.
• Coordinate performance testing and reliability runs.
• Ensure preparation and submission of final project documentation, as-built
drawings, and handover dossiers.
• Facilitate smooth handover of completed assets to the O&M team.
10. Risk Management & Reporting
• Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Escalate critical issues to management with recommended solutions.
• Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly project status reports.
• Monitor project budgets, schedules, and key performance indicators.
• Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned initiatives.
