What is the team & role about?
The Chief Operating Officer at Bright Money will own and scale the company’s
operational engine. This is an
operations-first leadership role with primary responsibility for Core
Operations, Banking Operations, Payments, Credit
Operations, Compliance Operations, KYC, Fraud and Risk Operations, Automation,
Process Excellence, App
Performance, and Customer Success.
The COO will work directly with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to build
scalable, controlled, and
technology-led operations capable of supporting Bright’s next phase of
hyper-growth.
We are looking for a hands-on operational leader with deep experience in
automation, compliance, risk management,
operational controls, and large-scale execution. The ideal candidate will have
built their career in core Operations and
subsequently taken on broader responsibilities, including Customer Success.
What will you do?
Operational Leadership
● Own the strategy, systems, processes, performance, and teams across Bright’s
operational functions.
● Build scalable operating models to support rapid growth in customers,
products, transactions, and revenue.
● Establish clear SLAs, operating metrics, quality standards, controls, and
governance mechanisms.
● Improve productivity, cost, turnaround time, accuracy, operational
reliability, and customer outcomes.
● Banking, Payments and Credit Operations: Oversee transaction processing,
settlements, reconciliations,
payment failures, disputes, chargebacks, credit servicing, repayments, and
collections.
● Build strong operational controls across the customer and transaction
lifecycle.
● Manage relationships with banking partners, payment processors, card
networks, credit bureaus, and other
fintech partners.
Compliance and Risk Operations
● Oversee KYC, customer verification, transaction monitoring, fraud
operations, complaints, and regulatory
operational controls.
● Partner with Compliance, Legal, Product, and Risk to meet regulatory and
partner requirements.
● Build robust mechanisms for risk identification, incident management,
root-cause analysis, remediation, and
audit readiness.
Automation and Process Excellence
● Build an AI-first operating model using AI, bringing automation, workflow
tools, and data.
● Automate and improve processes across payments, credit operations, KYC,
compliance, reconciliations, risk,
and customer servicing.
● Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to improve scalability,
controls, and operational efficiency.
Hyper-Growth and Forward Planning
● Translate company, product, and revenue goals into actionable operational
plans.
● Build operational readiness for new products, customer segments, and
financial partnerships.
● Identify and resolve scaling constraints before they affect customers or
business performance.
Customer and Commercial Outcomes
● Oversee App Performance and Customer Success as part of the broader
operational mandate.
● Improve customer satisfaction, retention, resolution time, service quality,
and product reliability.
● Drive improvements in operational budgets, unit economics, cost-to-serve,
and productivity.
● Prior experience owning or influencing a business-unit P&L is preferred
but not mandatory.
Leadership
● Lead and develop VPs, Directors, and Senior Managers, with approximately six
to eight direct reports.
● Build a high-performance culture centered on ownership, data, speed,
customer outcomes, and continuous
improvement.
● Drive strong collaboration across Operations, Product, Engineering, Finance,
Compliance, and Risk.
Ideal candidate profile looks like:
Experience & Background:
● 18+ years of overall experience, including significant senior operational
leadership experience.
● Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field; an
MBA from Tier 1 B-schools.
● Leadership experience in a hyper-growth fintech, digital-first banks/
technology-led banks, or consumer
technology company is mandatory.
● Career progression through core operations, business operations, banking
operations, payments, credit,
compliance, risk, process excellence, or automation.
● Proven experience scaling large, complex, technology-enabled operations.
● Strong knowledge of automation, AI-led operations, compliance, KYC, fraud,
risk, controls, and process
improvement.
● Experience leading multiple functions and managing senior leaders.
● Strong understanding of operational budgets, unit economics, cost-to-serve,
and customer outcomes.
● Experience in the U.S. consumer fintech ecosystem is strongly preferred.
What we are specifically looking for:
● This is an operations-first leadership role. The candidate should have built
their career across core operations,
business operations, banking operations, payments, credit, compliance, risk,
process excellence, or
automation.
● Candidates whose careers have primarily been in Customer Success or Customer
Service, with operations
managed only as an additional responsibility, may not be the right fit.
● Relevant leadership experience in a hyper-growth fintech or consumer
technology company is mandatory.
Candidates coming primarily from other industries or traditional,
non-technology-led businesses may not be
suitable.
● Direct experience across every listed fintech function is not required.
However, the candidate must have
successfully led complex, regulated, and technology-enabled operations at
scale.
● The ideal candidate should combine strong operational depth with automation,
compliance, risk, technology,
commercial, and customer orientation.
