An electrician on a shop floor (such as in a factory, manufacturing plant, or production facility) is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment to keep production running safely and efficiently.

Job Responsibilities:-

• Installing electrical equipment such as motors, control panels, sensors, lighting, and power distribution systems.
• Performing preventive maintenance by inspecting electrical components, tightening connections, cleaning panels, and replacing worn parts before they fail.
• Troubleshooting electrical faults in machines, conveyors, PLC-controlled equipment, drives, and other production systems.
• Repairing or replacing faulty components such as circuit breakers, relays, contactors, fuses, switches, cables, motors, and sensors.
• Reading electrical drawings and wiring diagrams to diagnose problems and perform installations correctly.
• Testing electrical systems using tools like multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and continuity testers.
• Ensuring electrical safety by following lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and complying with electrical safety standards.
• Supporting production by responding quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimize machine downtime.
• Maintaining records of maintenance activities, repairs, and spare parts used.
• Assisting with new machine installation and commissioning , including wiring, testing, and startup.

Example of a typical workday

1. Inspect machines before production starts.
2. Respond to any machine breakdowns during production.
3. Diagnose electrical faults using test instruments.
4. Repair or replace defective electrical components.
5. Test the machine to ensure it operates correctly.
6. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance.
7. Update maintenance logs and report recurring issues.
