DevOps Automation Engineer
Role Summary
The DevOps Automation Engineer is a senior individual contributor
responsible for designing, building, and maintaining automation that
supports DevOps platform-centric workloads across GitHub, GitLab
Self-Managed, Azure DevOps, and related cloud-hosted engineering
services.
This role is hands-on and execution-focused, with primary emphasis on
creating durable, maintainable automation that improves platform
operations, service consistency, scalability, and reliability. The
position requires deep technical working knowledge of Python and
Ansible, along with strong capability in Bash, PowerShell, Git,
infrastructure-as-code tooling, and API-driven integration patterns.
The role is expected to combine direct engineering execution with sound
technical judgment, disciplined implementation practices, and the
ability to drive work initiatives from concept through operational use.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain automation solutions that support
DevOps platforms such as GitHub, GitLab Self-Managed, and Azure
DevOps.

Build reusable automation using Python, Ansible, Bash, and PowerShell
with strong emphasis on maintainability, readability, supportability,
and standard engineering patterns.

Develop and manage automation workflows across GitHub Actions, AAP,
and AWX to support provisioning, integration, platform operations,
lifecycle activities, and service consistency.

Implement infrastructure and platform automation using Git-based
workflows, infrastructure-as-code practices, and Terraform where
appropriate.

Create automation that interfaces reliably with REST APIs, HTTP
services, and platform-native integration points.

Troubleshoot and resolve automation failures, playbook defects,
workflow issues, integration problems, and platform-related scripting
issues across engineering and operational environments.

Improve and refactor existing scripts, playbooks, and workflows to
reduce fragility, improve reuse, and align with durable engineering
practices.

Build automation with appropriate logging, diagnostics, input
validation, and error handling to support operational visibility and
supportability.

Apply secure engineering practices for automation, including
appropriate handling of credentials, tokens, secrets, and privileged
access patterns.

Produce and maintain clear technical documentation for scripts,
playbooks, workflow designs, operational procedures, and engineering
standards.

Partner with platform engineering, operations, security, and adjacent
technical teams to implement effective and supportable automation
solutions.

Drive assigned work initiatives from design through implementation,
operationalization, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications

5–7 years of relevant experience in automation engineering, DevOps
engineering, platform engineering, or a closely related technical
discipline.

Deep technical working knowledge of Python, including the ability to
write structured, maintainable, production-quality automation code.

Deep technical working knowledge of Ansible, including playbook
development, role-based organization, variable management,
orchestration patterns, and troubleshooting.

Strong scripting capability in Bash and working knowledge of
PowerShell.
-
Strong understanding of Git-based workflows and version-controlled
automation delivery.

Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions, AAP, AWX, and Terraform.
-
Strong working knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP interactions, service
integration patterns, and common authentication approaches used in
automation.

Experience building and supporting automation for DevOps platform
engineering and CI/CD-related workloads.
-
Experience working across platforms and environments such as GitHub,
Azure, AWS, GitLab Self-Managed, and Azure DevOps.

Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving capability in
complex technical environments.

Ability to design automation using sound engineering principles,
including modularity, maintainability, logging, validation, and
failure handling.

Ability to document technical solutions clearly and communicate
effectively with engineering and operational stakeholders.

Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model and execute with a high
degree of ownership.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing or supporting GitLab Self-Managed environments.

Experience building automation for enterprise DevOps platforms and
platform-centric engineering services.

Experience with reusable automation frameworks, shared libraries, and
standards-based automation patterns.

Familiarity with secure automation practices, secrets management
patterns, and audit-aware engineering in enterprise environments.

Experience with event-driven automation, webhook-based integrations,
and multi-system orchestration.

Familiarity with Linux-based platform operations and administration
concepts relevant to automation-driven engineering work.

Experience improving platform reliability, reducing manual operational
effort, and standardizing engineering workflows across teams.

Experience automating backup, restore, and recovery-oriented workflows
using Rubrik, Cohesity, or similar platforms via API for DevOps or
DevOps platform-centric workloads.
