1. ROLE PURPOSE

The Manager – Mechanical Design & Engineering will lead all mechanical engineering activities for the 350 MW brownfield expansion unit. The role involves detailed engineering review, integration of new systems with existing operating units, technical coordination with OEMs, and ensuring timely engineering deliverables to support construction and commissioning.

3. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Accountabilities	Key Performance Indicators
Lead basic and detailed engineering for BTG & BOP mechanical systems.
Review and approve mechanical drawings, specifications, and data sheets.
Ensure engineering deliverables align with overall project schedule.
Coordination with EPC contractor or equipment supplier and tracking of shipments.
Segregation of scope of supply, drawings, layouts of various packages defining the boundary limits.
Plan integration of new unit with existing:
• Coal Handling System
• Ash Handling System
• Cooling Water System
• Compressed air & service water systems	Brownfield Integration & Interface Management
Assess capacity margins of existing facilities.
Coordinate shutdown planning for mechanical tie-ins.
Interface with O&M team to minimize operational disruption.
Review design and layout of:
• Boiler structural, rotary drives & pressure parts.
• Steam turbine & auxiliaries.
• Generator & gas system.
• Condensate & feed water systems.
• BTG & Major Equipment Engineering
• BFPs, CW pumps, ID/FD/PA fans.
• ESP / FGD systems (if applicable).
Validate heat & mass balance and steam cycle parameters.
Ensure compliance with ASME, IBR, IS and relevant standards.
Review P&IDs, piping layouts, testing criteria & NDT.
Ensure optimal routing within brownfield space constraints.
Monitor piping material specifications and BOQ accuracy.
Develop WPS - Welding procedure specification.
Technical evaluation of OEMs and EPC contractors.
Review vendor drawings and resolve technical deviations.
Participate in FATs and technical discussions.
Provide technical guidance during erection & alignment.
Resolve site engineering queries coordinating with OEMs.	Construction & Commissioning Support
Support commissioning and performance guarantee testing.
MIS preparation & project progress monitoring.
Identify reuse opportunities of existing infrastructure.
Mitigate mechanical risks specific to brownfield conditions.	Risk & Cost Optimization
Implement engineering change management system.
Approval of DCN - Design Change Notice.

4. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Educational Qualifications & Key Competencies:

B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Master’s Degree preferred.

Key Competencies:

• Proficiency in reviewing P&IDs & piping layouts.
• Knowledge of ASME, IBR & thermal power standards.
• Exposure to heat & mass balance calculations.
• Experience with plant layout optimization.
• Familiarity with mechanical engineering software/tools.

Relevant and total years of Experience:

• 10+ years in coal-based thermal power projects (300 – 500 MW preferred).
• Experience in at least one full project lifecycle (Concept to Commissioning).
• Exposure to brownfield expansion projects preferred.
• Strong understanding of steam cycle and balance of plant systems.
