Job Description

HUNGER INC.

ART DIRECTOR

THE ROLE

At Hunger Inc., we believe good design is as essential as great food. We're looking for a Mid-Level Art Director who brings our brands to life in motion — The Bombay Canteen, O Pedro, Veronica's, Bombay Sweet Shop, and Papa's.

This role is about ideas that move — literally. Motion design and kinetic typography are core to this role, shaping how our brands show up across reels, in-venue screens, and digital campaigns. You'll concept and art direct work that feels alive, distinctive, and unmistakably ours.

Experience in hospitality, events, or retail is a strong plus — an eye for visual merchandising, decor, and how a brand feels in physical space will help you art direct experiences as confidently as you do content.

As Hunger Inc. looks to expand into new cities and formats, you'll help shape how our brands look and move as we scale — keeping every frame, every format, sharp and on-brand.

You'll report to the Design Lead, and through them to the Head of Design, and work closely with marketing, product, and operations to bring our visual world to life — thoughtfully, consistently, and with real attention to detail.

WHO WE ARE

Hunger Inc. is home to The Bombay Canteen, O Pedro, Bombay Sweet Shop, Veronica's, Papa's. We craft unforgettable food and beverage experiences that celebrate creativity, culture, and community.

While our guests experience this on the plate and in our spaces, it's our creative team that ensures every visual detail — from the smallest label to a full-blown campaign — tells our story in a way that's unmistakably us.

WHO YOU ARE

You think in sequences and frames as naturally as you do in layouts. You're equally excited by a tightly kerned headline and a kinetic type sequence that lands a punchline on beat. Motion isn't an afterthought for you — it's often where the idea starts.

You've art directed work before and you're confident owning a concept end-to-end — from first mood and reference to final cut or final file. You know how to set a clear creative direction and bring a team along with you, while staying hands-on enough to push the work yourself.

YOUR TEAM

You'll be a core part of the design team, working closely with the Design Lead, Head of Design, copywriters, marketers, and other designers across brands. You'll also guide and review work from junior designers, motion freelancers, and production vendors, helping raise the craft bar across the board. This is a hands-on, collaborative role that sits close to the work — from festive campaigns to event experiences and everyday content.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Motion & Kinetic Typography: Art directing and designing motion content and kinetic type for social, digital, and in-venue screens. This is core to the role.
  • Creative Direction: Setting visual concepts and moodboards for campaigns, launches, and seasonal storytelling.
  • Digital Design: Leading performance ads, social content, and digital campaigns that are sharp, on-brand, and built to stop the scroll.
  • Campaign Design: Bringing big ideas to life across launches, seasonal moments, and brand campaigns — in stills and in motion.
  • VM & Events (Bonus): Bringing a hospitality lens to visual merchandising, decor, and event setups — if you've worked in this space before, we'd love your eye here.
  • Brand Expansion: Helping build visual and motion systems that support our brands as they grow into new cities and formats.
  • Team Guidance: Reviewing and mentoring junior designers and freelancers, helping them level up and stay aligned.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with marketing, operations, and the Design Lead to keep every visual rooted in clear storytelling.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Motion Craft: Strong command of After Effects (or equivalent) and a real instinct for kinetic typography — this is essential, not a bonus.
  • Experience: 4–7 years of design experience, with at least 2 years in an art direction capacity, and a portfolio that shows strong motion work.
  • Visual Fundamentals: Excellent grasp of type, colour, composition, and hierarchy across still and moving formats.
  • Tech-Savvy: Strong command of Adobe After Effects, Premiere, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Hospitality Lens (Bonus): Background in hospitality, F&B, or retail, with an understanding of VM, decor, and event setups.
  • Concept to Execution: Able to concept independently and direct a project through to a polished, final cut or file.
  • Organised: You can juggle multiple projects across brands and still deliver on time, without dropping quality.
  • Collaborative: Open to feedback, easy to work with, and good at guiding others without micromanaging.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

  • A Motion-First Role: You'll shape how some of India's most-loved food brands move and show up everywhere.
  • Room to Grow: We love promoting from within and giving team members the space to lead.
  • A Front Seat on Expansion: As Hunger Inc. grows into new cities and formats, you'll help shape how our brands look and move as they scale.
  • A Fun, Thoughtful Team: You'll work with people who care deeply about quality, craft, and culture.
  • Meaningful Work: Your work won't sit in a folder — it'll be out in the world, sparking delight and bringing people joy.
  • Perks: Discounts at HI restaurants and cafes.
