ABOUT KAT COMPLIANCE KARMA PRIVATE LIMITED

Reimagining GST Compliance for India's New Tax Era

KAT Compliance Karma Pvt. Ltd. is a Mumbai-based RegTech venture building India's most comprehensive, end-to-end GST compliance platform. We are licensed as a GST Suvidha Provider (GSP) by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), placing us among a select group of authorised technology companies with direct integration access to India's GST infrastructure. Our platform is built to eliminate the complexity, fragmentation, and manual effort that plagues GST compliance today — for businesses of every size and sector.

We are not a compliance tool. We are a compliance operating system.

THE FOUNDING TEAM

Kevin Shah — Founder & Domain Lead

Kevin Shah is a Chartered Accountant and the founder of Kevin N. Shah & Associates (KSAA), a Mumbai-based boutique advisory firm recognised as a litigation and advisory-first practice in Indirect Taxation, GST, Customs, and International Trade. Over the years, Kevin has built a reputation for navigating the most complex tax disputes in India — from GST refund denials and show cause notices to Bombay High Court writ petitions and GST Appellate Tribunal matters — across industries ranging from infrastructure and pharmaceuticals to metals, real estate, and export-oriented businesses.

Kevin thinks bipolar which is very unique and he brings this to KAT something that most technology-first compliance companies lack: a practitioner's understanding of how the law is interpreted, contested, and enforced in the real world. He has represented clients before the Commissioner (Appeals), the GSTAT, and the High Court, and has authored detailed legal positions on ITC eligibility, penalty jurisprudence, refund limitation, and cross-border trade structures. This depth of domain knowledge is baked into the product's logic from day one.

At KAT, Kevin leads the product's regulatory intelligence, compliance workflows, and legal accuracy framework — ensuring that what the platform tells a user is not just technically correct, but legally defensible.

Apoorv Kumar — Co-Founder & Business Lead

Apoorv Kumar is a seasoned entrepreneur and business leader whose career has spanned two of India's most dynamic industries: commercial real estate and technology-led startups. An engineer by training, Apoorv was one of the early forces behind the India entry and growth of DTZ, a globally renowned property advisory firm, which was subsequently acquired by and merged into Cushman & Wakefield — one of the world's largest commercial real estate services companies. His role in establishing and scaling DTZ's India operations gave him a deep understanding of institutional capital, large-scale enterprise relationships, and the discipline required to build credible organisations from the ground up.

Following his real estate chapter, Apoorv pivoted into the startup ecosystem and has been a co-founder or early backer of ventures that have gone on to demonstrate strong commercial traction. Across these journeys, he has developed a sharp instinct for business development, strategic partnerships, and building organisations that scale.

At KAT, Apoorv drives growth strategy, enterprise partnerships, and go-to-market execution — bringing the rare ability to open doors at the CXO level while keeping the organisation operationally grounded.

Pankaj Tripathi — Co-Founder & Technology Lead

Pankaj Tripathi is a visionary technology leader with a track record of harnessing AI to solve complex, large-scale business problems. He is the Founder and CEO of Vernost Marketing Technology Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a Mumbai-headquartered digital technology company that has built a comprehensive suite of products and services across Customer Engagement, Digital Payments, Online Marketplaces, Travel Commerce, and Digital Distribution.

With a strong background in the IT Solutions domain, Vernost is a frontrunner in New Age Technology Stack Development and works closely with large enterprises, small businesses, and Government organisations across India, the Far East, and EMEA geographies. The company has established deep expertise in Blockchain, Mobile Apps, AI/ML modelling, Data Analytics, and Cloud enablement — capability sets that translate directly into KAT's technical architecture.

Under Pankaj's leadership, Vernost has delivered technology solutions to over 100 large-scale enterprises and has been one of India's earliest adopters of AI-driven customer intelligence platforms. His ability to conceive, build, and scale enterprise-grade software in regulated and complex environments makes him the ideal technology co-founder for a GSP-licensed compliance platform.

At KAT, Pankaj leads the engineering architecture, product development, and technology roadmap — building the infrastructure that will power real-time GSTN integration, automated reconciliation, and AI-assisted compliance intelligence at scale.

WHY KAT?

GST compliance in India remains deeply broken. Businesses struggle with reconciliation mismatches, ITC reversals, notice management, and return complexities — often relying on patchwork tools, manual effort, and advisors who lack technology leverage. KAT is built to change this.

We combine the regulatory depth of a leading GST litigation practice, the enterprise technology muscle of a seasoned SaaS builder, and the commercial instincts of a serial entrepreneur — all under a GSP licence that gives us direct, authorised connectivity to the GSTN ecosystem. No other compliance platform in India is assembled this way.

We are at an exciting and formative stage. The platform is live, the licence is in hand, and we are now building the team that will take KAT to the next level. If you want to work at the intersection of law, technology, and enterprise software — and help solve a problem that touches every business in India — we want to meet you.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a GST Technology Business Analyst who sits at the intersection of indirect tax law and software development. This role is pivotal in translating GST compliance requirements into precise, actionable documentation that drives the development of taxation technology products -- including ERP integrations, compliance automation tools, and GST filing software. The ideal candidate will serve as a credible bridge between our tax practitioners and technology teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. GST Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge
    • Maintain deep, working knowledge of the GST framework -- CGST, SGST, IGST, and Compensation Cess -- including applicable rules and notifications.
    • Demonstrate expert proficiency across all GST forms: GSTR-1, GSTR-2A/2B, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9/9C, GSTR-6, GSTR-7, GSTR-8, ITC-04, and the RFD series, including their inter-linkages, timelines, and nuances.
    • Understand the mechanics of ITC eligibility, reversal obligations, reconciliation processes, e-invoicing, e-way bill, and TDS/TCS provisions under GST.
    • Monitor GST Council notifications, circulars, and judicial precedents and assess their impact on software compliance modules.
  2. Information Technology in Taxation
    • Understand how GST technology solutions are architected -- covering GSTN APIs, return filing workflows, reconciliation engines, and e-invoice/IRN generation flows.
    • Read and interpret technical documentation including API specifications, data dictionaries, Swagger/OpenAPI files, and GSTN sandbox guides.
    • Evaluate the technical feasibility of compliance requirements and contribute meaningfully to solution design discussions with engineering teams.
  3. Compliance-to-Technology Documentation
    • Convert GST compliance obligations, procedural workflows, and regulatory logic into structured, developer-ready documentation.
    • Prepare detailed Functional Specification Documents (FSDs) covering system requirements, business rules, field-level validations, exception handling, and workflow diagrams.
    • Create Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), process flow maps, use cases, and user stories to guide product development teams.
    • Maintain version-controlled documentation that tracks regulatory amendments and their software implications.
  4. JIRA & Agile Development Collaboration
    • Read, interpret, and contribute to JIRA tickets -- including epics, stories, tasks, sub-tasks, and bug reports -- within agile sprint cycles.
    • Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives; validate acceptance criteria from a GST compliance standpoint.
    • Track and communicate status of compliance-related development items to stakeholders across tax and technology functions.
  5. API Integration & Technical Review
    • Read and analyse API integration documents, Postman collections, JSON/XML schemas, and technical specifications relevant to GST software.
    • Understand GSTN APIs for return filing, ITC ledger management, e-invoicing (IRP), and e-way bill, and document integration requirements with precision.
    • Liaise with developers and QA teams to ensure API behaviour aligns with GST compliance expectations; review test cases for regulatory accuracy.
  6. Functional Specification Documents
    • Own end-to-end drafting and maintenance of FSDs that serve as the single source of truth for development teams building GST compliance modules.
    • Ensure FSDs capture regulatory logic comprehensively: computation rules, rounding conventions, edge cases, error codes, and user-facing validation messages.
    • Collaborate with UI/UX, backend, and QA teams to ensure FSDs are implementation-ready and reduce ambiguity during development.
  7. ERP & Accounting Package Knowledge
    • Possess working knowledge of leading ERP and accounting platforms -- SAP, Oracle, Tally Prime, Zoho Books, or Microsoft Dynamics -- with specific focus on their GST and tax modules.
    • Understand how ERP data structures (chart of accounts, tax codes, vendor/customer masters, invoice flows) map to GST filing requirements.
    • Assist in designing ERP-to-GST-software integration layers by providing accurate compliance context, thereby reducing re-work for development teams.
