Position Overview
The Engineering Leader – Mechanical Engineering will provide people leadership
for a team of
mechanical engineers, Leads and designers supporting complex
engineered-to-order products. The
role is responsible for building capability, strengthening execution
discipline, improving design
quality, and partnering with global stakeholders to deliver safe,
manufacturable, cost-effective, and
customer-focused engineering solutions.
What the Candidate Will Do
Lead, coach, and develop a team of mechanical engineers and designers,
creating clarity around
expectations, priorities, ownership, and decision rights.
Drive execution excellence across complex, cross-functional programs by
partnering with project
management, engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, and global
business teams.
Establish and reinforce design standards, quality checks, knowledge-sharing
practices, and
continuous-improvement routines.

Identify capability gaps and build development plans that strengthen
technical depth, execution
discipline, and leadership readiness within the team.
Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and
constructive challenge
consistent with Koch values.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering
discipline. Masters in
Management preferred
Minimum of 14+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, product
design, equipment
design, or engineered-to-order project execution.
5+ years of experience leading Leads, engineers, designers, technical teams,
or complex
engineering workstreams.
Demonstrated ability to coach talent, improve team performance, manage
priorities, and
influence with/without direct authority.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, fabrication
considerations, engineering
documentation, and design-for-manufacturing practices.
Experience working with global stakeholders in a matrixed engineering
environment.
Strong communication, stakeholder-management, problem-solving, and
decision-making skills.
What Will Put the Candidate Ahead
Experience in combustion, emissions control, oil and gas, petrochemical,
process equipment,
pressure equipment, or heavy industrial systems.
Exposure to John Zink products such as burners, flares, thermal oxidizers,
vapor control systems,
or related engineered equipment.
Experience leading engineering transformation initiatives, standardization
programs,
automation, design-tool improvement, or digital engineering practices.
Advanced degree, MBA, formal leadership training, or demonstrated experience
developing
future leaders.
Experience working across global engineering centers and manufacturing
locations.
