Head of Legal - LAP 

Job Summary:

The Head of Legal for LAP will oversee all legal aspects of the Loan Against Property (LAP) business unit. This pivotal role is aimed at ensuring compliance, mitigating risks, and providing strategic legal advice to enable the business to achieve its goals effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the legal function concerning LAP, advising senior management on key legal and regulatory issues.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and agreements related to loan offerings, ensuring adherence to legal standards and policies.
• Evaluate and interpret legal and regulatory requirements relevant to LAP operations and implement compliance measures.
• Conduct risk assessments and provide proactive legal solutions to minimize exposure to litigation and other legal threats.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including risk management, operations, and compliance to support business objectives.
• Represent the organization in legal proceedings and engagements with external counsel as necessary.
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging legal issues, adapting policies and practices accordingly.

Requirements:

• Graduate degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution; LLM or additional qualifications is desirable.
• A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with at least 4 years in a leadership role in the financial services or banking sector.
• Strong knowledge of laws and regulations governing lending and real estate transactions.
• Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal professionals.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and respond effectively to changing priorities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in managing legal risks in large-scale real estate transactions.
• Proficiency in conducting legal research and familiarity with related software tools.
• A track record of leading teams and developing talent within the legal department.

• Understanding of corporate governance and compliance frameworks related to financial services.
