Legal Lead

ONDC is looking for a dynamic and solution-oriented legal professional to join as Lead – Legal. The role will be responsible for driving legal strategy, governance, contracting, regulatory advisory, and risk management across the organization. The individual will work closely with leadership, business teams, policy stakeholders, and external partners in a fast-paced and evolving ecosystem.
 

Key Responsibilities - 
● Provide strategic legal counsel to business and leadership teams on commercial, regulatory, operational, and governance matters.
● Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of agreements including technology, partnership, vendor, consulting, and enterprise contracts.
● Support policy interpretation and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and governance frameworks.
● Manage legal risks and provide proactive recommendations to safeguard organizational interests.
● Work closely with internal stakeholders on dispute management, investigations, compliance reviews, and legal documentation.
● Liaise with external counsel, regulators, government bodies, and ecosystem participants when required.
● Contribute to the development and strengthening of legal processes, templates, and compliance mechanisms within ONDC.
● Stay updated on evolving legal and regulatory developments relevant to digital commerce, technology, data governance, and platform ecosystems.
 

Desired Candidate Profile - 
● Qualified LLB/LLM from a reputed institution.
● 8–12 years of relevant legal experience, preferably across technology, digital platforms, startups, consulting, policy, or regulated sectors.
● Strong exposure to commercial contracting, regulatory matters, and corporate governance.
● Ability to operate in ambiguity and work independently in a high-growth environment.
● Strong stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
● Prior experience working with government, public digital infrastructure, or ecosystem-driven organizations will be an advantage.
