About the role
The Accountant – Commodity Desk will be the financial backbone of our
commodity trading operations, responsible for the complete accounting of
broker transactions, trader positions, and investment records. Reporting
to the Finance Manager, this role ensures that broker statements,
individual trader accounts, and consolidated positions are accurately
maintained in Tally and reported to management through timely MIS. The
role demands deep familiarity with foreign currency accounting and global
broker statement processing.
Responsibilities
Account for broker statements for each trader on a daily basis, ensuring
all entries are accurate, complete, and posted in Tally on time.
Maintain individual trader accounts in Tally ERP, keeping records
current, correctly classified, and audit-ready.
Consolidate accounts of all traders into a unified commodity desk view
in Tally, enabling accurate management reporting across the full book.
Record and track investments across all commodity types (metals, agri,
energy, etc.) and other asset classes, maintaining precise cost and
position data.
Perform regular reconciliation of Tally records against broker
statements, promptly identifying, investigating, and resolving all
discrepancies.
Develop and prepare MIS reports covering commodity desk P&L, position
summaries, and exception items for senior management review.
Process multi-currency entries for global broker transactions, applying
correct exchange rates and ensuring compliance with applicable forex
regulations.
Liaise with brokers and internal trading teams to resolve statement
queries, margin accounting issues, and transaction disputes.
Maintain complete, well-organised documentation of all commodity desk
transactions to support internal and statutory audits.
Candidate requirements
5–6 years of hands-on experience in accounting of broker statements,
with direct exposure to foreign currency transactions on a global basis.
Candidates with equivalent experience gained in the Investment Banking
sector — including back-office/operations roles involving trade
settlement, transaction processing, or multi-currency
broker/counterparty reconciliation — will also be considered.
Demonstrated experience in multi-currency accounting for commodity or
capital markets operations.
Proficiency in Tally ERP — must be able to independently maintain,
consolidate, and generate reports. (Candidates from an Investment
Banking background without prior Tally exposure but with strong
ERP/accounting systems experience will be considered, subject to a
willingness to ramp up on Tally quickly.)
Sound understanding of commodity markets, investment accounting, and
financial reconciliation workflows.
Strong MIS preparation skills — able to design and deliver management
reports independently.
Desirable: Working knowledge of commodity exchanges (MCX, NCDEX, or
international equivalents).
Desirable: Experience with multi-trader or multi-entity account
consolidation in Tally.
Desirable: Familiarity with FEMA/SEBI regulations applicable to
commodity and foreign currency accounting.
Qualifications
Minimum: Inter CA (ICAI) — candidates currently pursuing CA Final are
eligible to apply.
Preferred: Full CA qualification (ICAI).
Desirable: Additional certification in accounting software (e.g.
Tally-certified professional) or commodity/capital markets.
