Azure Data Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Azure Data Engineer to join our team in Sandton, Johannesburg for a 12-month contract with potential for permanent placement. This role plays a critical part in harnessing data capabilities to drive business insights and support strategic initiatives, allowing you to make a significant impact on our data-driven objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement robust ETL processes utilizing Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse Analytics.
• Execute data analysis and exploration using T-SQL to derive meaningful insights.
• Develop and maintain automated tests for data pipelines to ensure data integrity and reliability.
• Utilize strong SQL programming skills to create stored procedures and functions that support data operations.
• Apply data warehousing methodologies, such as Kimball and Data Vault 2.0, to optimize data structures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and influence project outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with data governance practices and promote awareness of tools such as Azure Purview.

Requirements:

• Minimum 7 years of overall experience in data engineering, with at least 3-4 years of expertise in Azure data technologies.
• Proficiency in Python for ETL development and data manipulation within Databricks.
• Strong experience in SQL, particularly with writing functions and stored procedures.
• Demonstrated history of building and maintaining efficient ETL processes.
• Familiarity with Azure data products including Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and ADLS Gen2.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a keen ability to think critically.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage stakeholders effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with using source control and Azure DevOps for project management.
• Knowledge of deployment pipelines and CI/CD practices within Azure environments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure in a team-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational skills and self-motivation to independently drive project deliverables.
• Awareness of data governance practices and the principles of treating customers fairly.
