Job Description
Job Objective:
The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct inspections of
ship hull welding and accessories fitment during testing and trials,
Alignment checks at various phases of the construction process. The role
requires a detailed understanding of welding processes, quality assurance,
and compliance with naval shipbuilding standards.
Key Responsibilities

Weld Inspection:
Conduct visual inspections of welded joints and structures as per the
shipbuilding code and standards. Verify weld quality and check for
common defects (e.g., porosity, cracks, incomplete fusion).

NDT Procedures:
Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) including techniques like
ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), and magnetic
particle inspection (MPI) to assess weld integrity and structural
soundness.

Accessories Fitment:
Inspect the fitment and alignment of shipbuilding accessories (e.g.,
bulkheads, fittings, and piping) to ensure conformity to the design and
specifications.

Alignment checks:
Verify the alignment of Equipment w.r.t. ship master datum.

Drawing Interpretation:
Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to confirm
that the construction work aligns with the design requirements.

Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare inspection reports, document findings, and maintain detailed
records of inspections, tests, and non-conformities.

Compliance Check:
Ensure that all welding and fitting activities are in compliance with
relevant international and naval standards, codes, and safety
regulations.

Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments (engineering, quality assurance,
production) to ensure seamless project execution and resolve any issues
related to quality, fitment, and welding.

Training & Knowledge Transfer:
Support the development of junior inspectors and share knowledge
regarding NDT techniques, standards, and welding practices.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or related field).

Minimum 5+ years of experience in shipbuilding inspection, with a focus
on welding and accessories fitment.

Level II NDT certification in relevant techniques (e.g., UT, RT, MPI).

Strong knowledge of shipbuilding standards, codes, and safety
regulations.
- Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Desirable:

Experience in naval shipbuilding or military ship construction projects.

Familiarity with international shipbuilding standards (e.g., ABS, DNV,
LR).
