Responsibilities 1. Regulatory Compliance & Safety Governance • Ensure compliance with statutory safety regulations including Factories Act, Gujarat Factory Rules, and other applicable industrial safety regulations. • Ensure plant compliance with EHS requirements applicable to API manufacturing facilities. • Maintain documentation related to safety permits, licenses, and statutory registers. • Coordinate with regulatory authorities during safety inspections and compliance audits. 2. Process Safety Management (PSM) • Identify and control process hazards associated with API production including reactors, solvents, and hazardous chemicals. • Conduct HAZOP, HIRA, JSA, and risk assessments for manufacturing processes. • Implement preventive safety measures for chemical reactions, high temperature operations, and pressure systems. • Ensure safe storage, handling, and transfer of hazardous chemicals and solvents. 3. Fire & Explosion Safety Management • Implement fire safety systems for solvent storage areas, reactors, and chemical handling zones. • Ensure proper maintenance of firefighting equipment, hydrant systems, and alarm systems. • Conduct fire safety audits and mock drills. Incident Investigation & Risk Prevention • Lead investigations of accidents, near misses, chemical exposures, and safety incidents. • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). • Maintain records of incidents and analyze trends to improve safety performance. • Develop risk mitigation strategies to prevent recurrence. 5. Safety Training & Employee Awareness • Conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and plant personnel. • Provide training on chemical handling, PPE usage, confined space safety, and emergency response. • Conduct regular toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and awareness programs. • Promote a proactive safety culture across all departments. 6. Emergency Preparedness & Disaster Management • Develop and implement On-Site Emergency Plans as per statutory requirements. • Coordinate emergency response for fire, chemical leaks, gas exposure, and plant emergencies. • Conduct emergency mock drills and evaluate response effectiveness. • Coordinate with local authorities and emergency services when required. 7. Safety Audits & Continuous Improvement • Conduct regular plant safety inspections and internal EHS audits. • Support external audits such as GMP, regulatory inspections, and customer audits related to safety. • Monitor compliance with safety SOPs and safe work practices. • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant safety performance. 8. Contractor & Project Safety Management • Ensure safety compliance for contractors working inside the plant. • Implement permit-to-work systems for hot work, confined space entry, height work, and maintenance activities. • Monitor safety during plant expansion, equipment installation, and maintenance activities.
